Blob envelope
A blob on the wire: its CID and its bytes.
Fetching schema…

Part of Stem. This page defines the rpc/type/blob-envelope message type used by the sync RPC specification. Fetch returns them and Publish accepts them.

The formal schema is attached as the schemaDefinition of this page.

A blob on the wire: its CID and its bytes. The receiver recomputes the hash and refuses a mismatch.

Fields

field

type

required

meaning

cid

cid

yes

The blob's CID as the sender names it.

data

bytes

yes

The blob's bytes, at most 2 MiB.

Rules

The receiver recomputes the multihash from data with the hash function named in cid and refuses a mismatch.

Both hash functions in use on the network (BLAKE2b-256 in the daemon, SHA-256 in the SDK) are accepted; the receiver stores by multihash, so one set of bytes is never stored twice.

data is at most 2 MiB.

Today (HM24)

HM24 moves bytes as Bitswap blocks and accepts raw uploads as Daemon.StoreBlobs entries with an optional CID. The envelope is the same pair in schema form.

Example

{"cid": {"/": "bafy2bzacea…"}, "data": {"/": {"bytes": "omR0eXBlZE5vZGVmc2lnbmVy…"}}}
