Publishing Without Barriers
It can be really difficult to publish content to the open web, free of the spammy advertisements of the news feed. Web publishing generally requires a domain, a server, and some technical knowledge.
Seed Hypermedia enables you to publish openly, without barriers or friction. Your computer can distribute content directly to your audience, so you don’t have to continuously  pay for a server and domain. Once the audience has your special link, they can use the Seed app to load your site directly from you.
But you probably want to publish to the traditional web as well, so people can follow web links and immediately see your content. We offer a free service that gets you content on the web. If you use your own domain, you keep complete independence from us. And if you want to keep our servers entirely out of the loop, you can run a single command on your own server, connect your own domain, and boom- you have published to the web with complete independence.
Web of Trust
So, how does SHM improve trust on the open web? We build on a system called public key cryptography. You have a private key, basically random data, that is stored on your computer or phone. And it has a public key, which acts like a username. But it’s not registered with us, anyone can independently create these identities. Any time you do something in the system, it is signed by your private key. Thanks to the magic of cryptography, anyone can verify that signature against your public key. And you can link new devices by signing a message that gives account access to a different private key, on the new device.
So now you can securely see when content is signed by the same person. But how does Seed help you know who really owns each identity? You can form a web of trust by signing a validation for other accounts, claiming that this other key is your friend, a real person, or at least is worth listening to.
Now, when you see some hypermedia content, you can validate the source by looking at their network of friends, domains they own, and other social media accounts. And that’s how the web of trust can ensure integrity on the open web.
Community Preservarion
When you use social media, you rely on some big company to save your communities knowledge, and keep it available. But they might fail you at any time. Instead, take community preservation into your own hands with Seed Hypermedia. Here’s how it works:
When you sign content using a private key that only you control anyone can download your contributions as a series of small files, and know that it came from you. So it becomes really easy to download your community knowledge and keep it safe. And everyone in your community can do this. Then, even if all the servers go down, your computers can connect directly to recover backups and share new content. And that’s how seed hypermedia can keep your community safe, and impossible to censor.
